Ken began his career at 17 years old racing on the streets of Birmingham, quickly realizing that the streets were no place for this, he carried it to the local tracks. Since the very beginning, Ken has had a love and passion for street cars and street car racing. After 2 years, Ken was offered an opportunity to drive an acohol funny car for a close friend. He became the youngest licensed IHRA alcohol funny car driver in the southeast. Jumping on this chance of a lifetime, Ken enjoyed a 4 year career. Due to budget constraints, we were only able to run a handful of IHRA races, but did travel and race several 4 car match races and 8 car open shows all over the southeast while posting a career best 4.06 ET at 185 MPH. In 1998 Ken went out on his own decided to go back to his grass roots of heads up street car racing, which was also around the same time of the birth of outlaw 10.5. Ken led the way with his blown small block 1977 Chevrolet Camaro stemming from the knowledge his alcohol funny car career. In 1999 Ken won the first championship at Huntsville Dragway in Outlaw 10.5, and dominating at tracks such as Brainerd, Macon, and Phenix City. He ended the 1999 season with the worlds first 4 second pass on 10.5's with a 4.92 ET at 147 MPH, during which Ken was featured in Popular Hot Rod Magazine, and websites such as Heads Up Review. After a spectacular career during 1999, Ken decided to build a 1955 Chevrolet BelAire for the 2000 season. Even though this car was state of the art and ahead of it's time for the outlaw 10.5 scene, it still sported the same blown small block combination as the previous year. On only it's 3rd pass, the unthinkable happened. With a steering component failure, Ken barrel rolled numerous times and completely destroyed the Rainwater Racing 1955 BelAire. Ken was heartbroken, and with this financial devastation, it took Ken and Rainwater Racing Team several years to overcome this tragedy and return to Outlaw 10.5. Although, he was back at the track the weekend following the accident, driving his 1980 Malibu 6.0 Heads Up car. Within a year of 6.0 racing, Ken purchased a 1990 Mustang, spending the next few years racing more locally in the 10.5 circuit. He was slowly beginning to regain his steam. Ken continued to set track records at tracks such as Lassiter Mountain, and Chilton County, while winning numerous local outlaw races.

In early 2005 Ken and the team decided it was time to go back to real racing and join his old racing companions in the ORSCA ranks. So, we sold the Mustang and the Malibu. In late 2005, Ken purchased a 1966 AMC Rambler with a 526ci blown Hemi under the hood. The engine and transmission combo is identical to what he campaigned during his funny car career. While only running this car 4 to 5 times during the 2005 season, he achieved a career best time in Outlaw 10.5 of 4.60 ET @ 163 MPH. In the first half of the 2006 season Ken removed the blower and added a pair of 88mm Turbonetics Turbos to the 526 Hemi powered "Rambo". Ken and close friend Alan Dudley decided to try something different. Alan was already in the design stages of his new alcohol electronic fuel system, but it wasn't complete yet. They decided to put an alcohol mechanical fuel system on the car in the meantime, which worked out well. Including some other updates, "Rambo" showed some definite improvements and was finally able to go a few rounds. But, Ken had a surprise up his sleeve. With the sale of the 706 nitrous motor, enclosed trailer and several miscellaneous parts, he was able to obtain a new state of the art 2003 Mustang with the help of Young's Performance. The car was purchased rolling with a complete 598 Ford motor. All of the remaining parts needed to complete the Mustang were taken from "Rambo". Ken took the car for its inaugural race at his very own event "Beat The Heat, Under The Lights" at Montgomery Motorsports Park. The very first pass "Mustang Sally" made was a 4.63 @ 154 right off the trailer. Needless to say, Ken and Alan were pleasantly surprised. She got better with every pass of the weekend, and went on to take the win!! Ken's first major event win in more than 6 years, with a career best time of 4.55 @ 163. With the help of Alan Dudley, Young's Performance and PTC Converters, we believe that "Mustang Sally" will continue to improve and hopefully add a few more trophies to the Rainwater Racing collection.
